Yang Sang-Kuk

Abstract
To identify the chronological characteristics of Korean Journal of Urology(KJU), we analyzed all papers in KJU from 1960 to 1997. A total of 4,049 papers were classified according to structure(original article or case report or review article), content(experimental of clinical paper) and ten genitourinary field. Chronology was classified into four decades as follows; 1960¡¯s, 1970¡¯s, 1980¡¯s, 1990¡¯s(1990-1997). Annual number of papers in KJU continuously increased in proportion to the number of cumulative Korean urology board. Proportion of original articles, which constituted overall 68%, significantly increased in 1990¡¯s(75.4%). The field of tumor, congenital anomaly, infection, stone and trauma constituted a major proportion in KJU. Tumor-field showed increasing trend, but infection-field showed decreasing trend. The field of impotence, neurourology and female urology begun to increase in 1990¡¯s with their high proportion of experimental papers. The ratio of experimental papers, which was 18% in 1960¡¯s, 8% in 1970¡¯s, 9% in 1980¡¯s, increased to 21% in 1990¡¯s mainly due to increment of tumor part papers. In 1990¡¯s, prostate-related papers significantly increased in tumor-field. The data listed above would be the index reflecting academic and practicing
work in urology. Papers related to experiment or tumor-field will constitute more proportion in future.
